Sylvie MacLean
Hello, I’m Sylvie MacLean. I have always been a maker at heart. My journey as a crafter began decades ago in Ontario where I first picked up knitting needles in my teens. In fact, during my university years, I turned that hobby into a little side hustle, knitting iconic Lopi sweaters and hats to earn a little extra pocket money while studying.
In 1992, life took me to the East Coast and I moved to Prince Edward Island to start my teaching career. While the classroom was my focus during the day, crafting has continued to be a way to relax, unwind and recharge. Between creative curiosity and the love of learning new skills, over time I taught myself to crochet. Hats, scarves, sweaters, slippers, ponchos and blankets are but a few examples of the projects I’ve enjoyed making.
During the quiet days of the pandemic, I found a new passion for sewing. By expanding my toolkit and skillset and exploring new fabrics, patterns and techniques, I fell in love with making quilts, bags, table runners, fabric art, quilt coats and other sewn creations.
Now, as I transition into retirement, I am appreciating the freedom to embark even further into these creative outlets. Whether I’m at the sewing machine or working with yarn, I continue to be inspired by beautiful materials, rich textures and eye-catching colors. Above all, I approach every project with thoughtful craftsmanship that ensures every piece is as durable as it is beautiful.
